We currently offer six class
levels designed to best serve the developmental needs of our
children.
Infants and Toddlers (0-3 years) get to know their peers and some of the caring adults in the
church, in a safe, loving, and nurturing environment. The nursery is available from 10:15 until 11:45 every Sunday morning for children 3 years old and younger. Please sign your
child in and out each week.
Chalice Children (3-5 years) learn through experience and interactions with their peers and adult leaders. The UU preschool curriculum, Chalice Children, helps nurture spiritual growth, creativity, and a sense of community through imaginative activities and rituals such as rhymes and fingerplays.
Love Surrounds Us Community (grades K-1) explores the seven Principles that are at the core of our
Unitarian Universalist community and that encompass all the
ingredients of a good life. With the UU Tapestry of Faith curriculum, Love Surrounds Us, the group looks at the principles in the
context of
Beloved Community of family, school and neighborhood. Participants
engage in activities that emphasize the love they feel in community.
Everyday Heroes (grades 2-4) explore the decisions and situations they face every day and that they will encounter in the future. Moral Tales, a UU Tapestry of Faith curriculum, provides children with spiritual and ethical tools to make choices and take actions that reflect their beliefs and values. The program encourages children to become everyday heroes and helps celebrate the many ways they live out their UU beliefs.
Amazing UUs (grades 5-8) use the UU Tapestry of Faith curriculum, Amazing Grace, to better understand right and wrong and to act on their new understanding. The curriculum's purpose is to equip them to move safely and productively through the middle- and high school years, when they will be continually tugged toward both ends of the ethics continuum.
The High School Youth Group (grades 9-12) integrates the five components of a
successful youth program to create their own dynamic group. The components are worship, leadership, learning, social justice, and fellowship. They will design and lead a worship service. Field trips and lock-ins are also planned. Youth are encouraged to attend intergenerational activities, such as worship services and Game Nights.
Social Justice Sundays encourage young people to develop social conscience and take action to influence change. Social Justice Sundays are scheduled once a month from October through May. On these days children in
kindergarten through 4th
grade meet together with adults who are active in social justice. Together they put their faith into action through hands-on projects often related to intiatives UUS has adopted.
If you have questions about the Religious Exploration program, do not hesitate to ask our director, Linda Weaver.
